Air Pollution Control (APC) Equipment

The Mauritian economy is hugely reliant on the tourism industry, and therefore the effective reduction of pollutants, both in the air and in the water, is of extreme importance. J&C Engineering will immediately offer specialised products & services to industry.

Initially J&C Engineering will import parts & components for the APC equipment, but the Low Import Cost and Government Import Subsidies will incentivise J&C Engineering to put up fabrication facilities in Mauritius as soon as possible. J&C Engineering will use its knowledge of the worldwide market to target the fabrication of APC Equipment and the Export of these components to markets all over the world. These include companies involved in thermal power generation, cement production and any other heavy industry with the need for lowering emissions.

Renewable Energy

The Smart City Scheme calls for the development of Green Energy Production. J&C Engineering has invested heavily in the development and investment of Energy Generation Solutions, and these can be effectively introduced into the Mauritian Economy on short notice.

Biomass Solutions

J&C Engineering can supply turnkey Green & Clean Energy plants burning Biomass, Solid Recovery Fuels or a combination of fuels to produce thermal energy from 1-100 MW, and Electrical Power from 0.5-15 MW. The thermal energy comes individual, or in any combination of hot water, steam, superheated steam (electricity generation) thermal oil and hot gas.

We offer solutions for:

  • Wood, food and agri industry and for companies investing in renewable energy
  • Wide choices of fuel including municipal waste, bagasse, coal, wood waste, palm oil and many other choices
  • Highly efficient standard series (up to 10 MW) and tailor-made energy solutions (up to 100 MW)
  • Technology adapted to your specific process, ensuring the lowest total cost of ownership thanks to high availability, high energy efficiency and low cost of operation
  • Operational Assistance and yearly maintenance

Biogas Solutions

Biogas can be produced from many forms of organic waste products.

These include:

  • Municipal waste
  • Food waste from the Hospitality Industry

New research could help with the large-scale cultivation and manufacturing of oil-rich algae in oceans for biofuel. J&C Engineering is keeping an eye on the development of this technology, especially for Island Countries and those with long coast lines

J&C Engineering can supply the following biogas energy plant technology, equipment, products & services.

  • Biogas Technology
  • Complete Biogas plant
  • Equipment, products & services

Green Energy – Solar

J&C Engineering can supply a robust steel product range and supplies various value-added services ideally suited for the Solar industry.

We offer cost-effective steel solutions to the renewable energy industry, particularly for fixed and tracker Solar Photovoltaic (PV) ground mounted, rooftop framing, and Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) systems. We supply a comprehensive range of cold formed open sections, tube, plate, steel sections, fabrication and galvanizing of complete components of the supporting structures.
Our steel palisade fencing is ideally suited for perimeter security of solar facilities.

Waste Incineration

J&C Engineering can provide Waste-to-Electricity plants for the effective reduction of solid waste generated by heavy industry, the hospitality sector as well as private dwellings. The problem of waste accumulation is reaching threatening proportions. Landfill options are showing more and more weaknesses and are becoming extremely expensive. In a small Island country dependant on Tourism like Mauritius effective processing of waste is of huge importance.

Energy recovery from the combustion of municipal solid waste is a key part of the non-hazardous waste management hierarchy, which ranks various management strategies from most to least environmentally preferred. Energy recovery ranks below source reduction and recycling/reuse but above treatment and disposal. Confined and controlled burning, known as combustion, can not only decrease the volume of solid waste destined for landfills, but can also recover energy from the waste burning process. This generates a renewable energy source and reduces carbon emissions by offsetting the need for energy from fossil sources and reduces methane generation from landfills.

The objective of the small-scale waste incineration plants supplied will be for waste reduction. The small amount of electricity generated will only be sufficient to make the incineration plant self-sufficient. Additional power generated can be sold to the electricity utility in order to pay for maintenance & servicing of the plant.

The first large scale Waste to Energy plant in Africa has just been built in Cape Town. Usable waste will be converted into various products, including organic fertiliser, liquid carbon dioxide (CO2), compressed biomethane, recyclables and refuse-derived fuel.

Corrosion Protection

Compared with land structures, coastal steel structures are exposed to a severe corrosive environment. Mauritius, being an Island Country will be subject to extensive and continuous corrosion of all unprotected and untreated steel structures. About a fifth of the world’s annual steel production goes towards simply replacing steel parts damaged by corrosion. Even though it may involve higher up-front cost, correct and efficient corrosion protection at the source helps save money and resources in the long run. Each year corroded machinery, buildings and equipment cost the Mauritian industry vast sums of money. Corrosion is a costly problem. Water locked Island countries is subject to more corrosion than landlocked countries.

Adding salt to water greatly enhances its current-carrying ability. Thus, steel exposed to seawater or salt spray will corrode more rapidly than steel in fresh water. Atmospheric corrosion is greater in areas near the oceans, due to the effect of salt air. J&C Engineering can provide corrosion protection products & services in the following areas:

  • Salt Air Corrosion – Steel exposed to salt bearing moisture can be protected with specialised coatings.

Industrial High-Heat Applications – A typical chemical corrosion reaction occurs at high temperatures, where the metal reacts with hot gases and forms an oxide layer. Protection of steel subject to these conditions by applying specialised coatings

Water Pipe Repair & Protection

The government of Mauritius has spelled out major reforms to address the long-standing problem of domestic water supply. The most prominent issue the Government Programme 2015-2019 aims to tackle is the mobilisation of water resources and infrastructure including the renewal and replacement of pipes to reduce water loss and ensure a year-round water supply. J&C Engineering can provide a service whereby the water pipes can be repaired and rejuvenated without removal of the pipes, or without the expensive exercise of trenching. J&C Engineering has access to advanced technology that can coat the inside of water pipes with a coating that protects the pipe against corrosion & erosion while repairing leaks at the same time. The use of this technology can save the Government vast amounts of money.

  • Improves flow efficiency
  • Seals open joints and cracks
  • Corrosion protection
  • Erosion prevention

Trenchless Technology

Trenchless technology is a type of subsurface construction work that requires few trenches or no continuous trenches. It is a rapidly growing sector of the construction and civil engineering industry. It can be defined as “a family of methods, materials, and equipment capable of being used for the installation of new or replacement or rehabilitation of existing underground infrastructure with minimal disruption to surface traffic, business, and other activities.”

Environmentally Friendly

Using specialised equipment underground infrastructure is installed, repaired, or replaced with minimal ecological disturbance. Infrastructure can be installed under buildings, under forests, under wetlands and bodies of water.

Minimal Disturbance to Surroundings

No one likes their home, business, or morning commute to be affected by construction. The footprint for a trenchless construction zone is smaller and often times done in an existing right of way.

Decreased Rehabilitation Time

Because trenchless construction methods require little digging, the time to rehabilitate the work area to as-found or better condition is decreased.

Time Saving

With decreased disturbance, projects using trenchless methods take less time to complete. Less time means less inconvenience associated with a construction project.
